News items

I’ll be posting here items of general interest. Apart from my freelance work, I play music in several recorder ensembles. The Yarrowee Players is a recorder orchestra of 20 or more players.  It has an unexpectedly big, beefy sound as there are quite a few large and very large recorders, with lesser instruments as they go up in pitch.  Our last gig for the year is to contribute one item to Ballarat’s Anglican Cathedral “Nine Lessons and Carols” service on Sunday 21 December, 2025 at 2 & 7pm.

My other group is a recorder quintet, The Buninyong Players, and last weekend was our final performance for the year – a carol service at Buninyong Uniting.  Now we work towards the introductory music to The Bard in Buninyong’s February 2026 season – leaving Shakespeare this year for Aristophanes “The Birds”. A bit of a challenge for us – easy to find Renaissance music, but … should we play Zorba the Greek?!
